“What am I going to do with you, Sergeant?”

“You wouldn’t be open to any, ah, new ideas, would you?”

“I’ll think of something.”

– An actual exchange between two supposed enemies, one of whom has just captured the other. Oh, Rat Patrol. Never change.

Sam Troy, drinking

couchcushings:

yknow i haven’t watched a single episode of the rats in ~1 year but the moment i got yr ask i knew that sam troy, at some point in his life had a drinking problem. i’m torn between it being before he joined up (something to do with his father, who always struck me as probably a distant man and the fact that, for some ungodly reason, i’ve always called troy sgt. daddy issues and can’t remember why).

but it if was before the war, it was definitely brought on by feelings of inadequacy. then, after he enlisted (because he defs enlisted and wasn’t drafted) the feelings started going away. there were men under his command, men who depended on him. he was mostly sober until the first time he had to knock on someone’s door and tell them that their son/brother/husband wasn’t coming home. he hasn’t drunk a drop since.

if it was after the war, it was brought on by ptsd/shell shock due to all the shit he got up to in that desert. i like to think that the other rats held an intervention, but tbh, the only man who could ever convince sam troy to not do something would be dietrich.

send me a character + thing if you wanna know my headcanon for them and that thing
